Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center preserves 150 acres along the Arkansas River. Visitors can explore nearly two miles of interpreted trails, including a half-mile nature trail. The trails are only accessible via the visitor center, and there is no public access outside the center’s operating hours. The center offers exhibits, and a historian is on-site to answer questions.

Guided tours of the site are available by appointment, subject to staff availability. To request a tour, please call 918-962-2062 or email spiro@history.ok.gov. Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center is located northeast of Spiro, Oklahoma, four miles north of US-271.

Most artifacts currently on exhibit at Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center are in the process of repatriation in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA).

During this process, certain items may be covered or removed from display out of respect for the wishes of affiliated tribal nations. This work is being conducted in cooperation with the University of Oklahoma and tribal representatives.

We appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure that these important cultural materials are treated with the respect they deserve.
